LUNCH UNDER THE OLIVE TREE

Irma phoned just before lunch time and suggested we go and try out a new bar, the Caffè Consorzio, which has opened up here in the Sorda district. That sounded like a good idea to me, so I got my glad rags on and off we went. We sat in the shade of their olive tree and, in a very relaxed atmosphere, partook of:
these delightfully presented antipasti
for me, Italian sausage cooked delicately in olive oil and lemon juice, as it should be
for Irma, their lemon chicken
a plate of grilled vegetables each
a macedonia for me
a plate of fresh fruit with lemon ice cream for Irma
The cost? Just 21.50 euros for the two of us, including drinks. Coffee was on the house!
Blogpower Awards: there is still time to vote for me in all three categories if you would like to. Here are the links for voting:
You can vote until 19.00 UK time [20.00 Italian time]. Many thanks. I really appreciate your support.

Looks tasty. Are congrats in order. Looks like you edged out one catagory by one vote. You took the one you wanted and you will get the third one, because of the number one vote getter declining it. Well deserved.

Thanks, Steve. Let's wait for the announcements. Can I ask where you heard about the no 1 vote getter declining the 3rd category? I can't find anything about it on the dtb site. I wouldn't want it that way.

Steve, I've seen it now. I wish he'd change his mind.

oh, that looks delicious, and now, tomorrow, (good Welsh phrasing there!) you must have a celebratory lunch!

This is just lunch? And 21 euros for two of you? I'm on my way! Well I wish I was.

Ooh, it looks delicious, Welshcakes! I just dropped by to say congratulations, and got distracted by the gorgeous-looking plates. Can I ask something? I'd really love some antipasto ideas and recipes, if you have any. Vegetarian, please!
PS It's taken me three tries to get that silly verification right!

It was, Ruthie! Hi, Liz. Yes, I say those Welsh "now" ones: "now in a minute" etc. I'll do the lunch tomorrow when I've had my hair done! Jmb, Lee what a gossip we three would have over lunch! Thanks, Anna. Are you vegan? Let me know and I'll see what recipes I can dig out.

Just vegetarian, so I eat butter and eggs and everything. What would you put on a vegetarian antipasto plate?

Hi, Anna. Well, bruschette are always welcome, I find. Just grill or roast hard bread, rub with garlic and drizzle on olive oil. Then serve with a variety of toppings which you will put on at the last minute: chopped tomato and herbs; chopped peppers; grilled and skinned red peppers; a little dish of pesto that the guests can put on the bread themselves [as in the picture here]. "Boats" of endive or chicory with Roquefort or similar cheese piped into them. Cherry tomatoes halved, the pulp scooped out, then salted, left for a couple of hours upturned, then rinsed and dried and filled with cream cheese and herbs or guacamole or pesto. Mushroom pate and French toasts. Fresh pineapple slices sprinkled with rocket. [It works!] Thin, grilled slices of aubergine sprinkled with lemon juice, olive oil and chopped mint. Carluccio has recipes for arancine [rice balls] without meat. [You'll need to check out his books.] Mini ones would go down well. And of course, lots of grissini and olives! I get a lot of antipasti nideas from the Australian Woman's Weekly "finger Food" series. You can get them in Waterstone's. I hope this helps!

Ooh, they sound lovely! I like the aubergine and tomato ideas, and I will definitely try the rocket/pineapple. Yum!
