SABATO MUSICALE ON WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY

Don McLean - Vincent  [Starry Starry Night]

Please ask someone how they are today and listen to the answer.

The theme of World Suicide Prevention Day this year is "Preventing Suicide in Multicultural Societies" so this would be a good day on which to reach out to someone from another culture.  Sometimes a friendly greeting is all it takes to stop someone from sinking into despair.

You may like to join us in lighting a candle near a window at eight o'clock this evening in memory of all who have been touched by suicide.

You can find out more about the International Association for Suicide Prevention here.

A beautiful song, for a very worthy cause, from an extraordinary lady. Thank you Welshcakes.

I will light a candle at 8 pm tonight with much gratitude in my heart, and much compassion for people who have lost a friend, or family member to suicide.

At a very dark moment in my life, I wrote a poem which ended:
"She did not say goodbye in a blaze of glory...
She did not wave...There was nobody there..."
The aloneness and loneliness are so deep and real to someone in pain. It seems that the world is totally empty. It's so scary!

It's important to reach out when we meet people, and (as you say,) to ask "How are you?" and to listen to the answer. We might save a life by simply being present and visible.

It's so kind of you, Pat, to bring this day to our attention. Merci du fond du coeur!

Thank you, Claude. That is a lovely poem and it expresses the loneliness so well. I do know this feeling and my heart goes out to anyone going through it.
